8 x 10 photography: stumbling along

So my first steps using an 8×10 monorail in the field have resulted in me stumbling badly, even though the steps I took were baby ones. That’s the way with this format–it’s a challenge.

10×8 is a very niche thing nowadays, and the companies that are still producing the field and monorail cameras today are very small and specialised operations. They are masters in what they do, so there are some seriously expensive cameras being made that are way out of my price range.

One option that I do need to explore is to use better scanning software (that is one gives me greater control of the exposure range of the negative)—Silverfast?)—and then to process the scanned positive in Photoshop. That means I have to teach myself Photoshop.
