Adelaide: early morning

If the new skyline in the CBD is starting to look like that of a state capital city, then the new buildings post the global financial crisis are apartments not offices. That means more people living in the city. The Adelaide City Council, which aims to create and accessible and vibrant city over the next 10 years, is working on a laneway’s revitalization project (cafes and eateries) to help make the city more people friendly, but it is still unwilling to close them (eg., Leigh St and Bank St) to cars.

Three issues/tussles dominant the debate about the city’s future:– the car versus the pedestrian, the high rise versus heritage, and the beer barn versus the wine bar.
