in Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart’s buildings are part of its heritage that is now leveraged for tourism to replace the declining resource industries of mining and forestry. I was a tourist, like many of the people staying in the Collins hotel.

Argyle St, Hobart

On the Friday it had been raining heavily all the way from Queenstown to Hobart, and the Saturday started out with showers and drizzle. I wandered amongst the port area until I was kicked out by security guards–no photos are allowed apparently— then I went from car park roof to car park roof. This is a place resonant with historical associations that stand in contrast to its high rate of welfare dependence and poor educational retention rates.
