Seascape 2: b+w

These black and white seascapes are of Encounter Bay on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. All the images of the southern ocean in the series were made early in the morning from Rosetta Head (Kongkengguwarr) using a Rolleiflex SL66 medium format camera, an old Gitzo systematic tripod and Ilford Pan F Plus 50 ASA film. This is a long term series.

The reference point is Hiroshi Sugimoto ‘s minimalist black and white seascapes that became a book of 200  images made over 30 years. These were made with a large-format camera coupled, often, with long exposure times creates smooth images. These engage with repetition as image after image has the same black and white composition, the sky above and the ocean below, the horizon splitting perfectly across the exact middle of the composition.
