at Kuitpo Forest

Whilst walking around Chookarloo–dogs are allowed— we avoided the shelters, rainwater, picnic tables and toilet. We didn’t venture on the Chookarloo and Heysen walking trails –leaving that for another occasion. These would be an oasis in a landscape landscape in which European settlement effectively cleared the forests so that crops could be planted and sheep and cattle could graze. Most of the land had been cleared by the end of the 19th century.

People appeared to have chopped down the native trees for firewood for their camp fires. There was one tent and one car of walkers when we were there.

I was attracted by the peeling bark of the eucalypts and the old logs lying on the ground in the camping area. It’s not art photography–that is photography manufactured for the art institution to sell easily to their clients. I walked around for an hour or so but I didn’t take many photos.
