There is a big redevelopment plan by Renewal SA. However, what we have so far is a bike path around the Sawtooth building. The Port needs to attract more residents as opposed to wishful dreaming big time–the latest idea to create jobs, drive property investment, and boost the area’s struggling economy is to transform the area into Australia’s ‘Silicon Valley’ by getting companies such as Google, Apple and Microsoft to set up a base at the Port.
Though transitioning the Port from industry town to a technology hub is a good idea a Silicon Valley on that scale just ain’t going to happen. Why would Google, Apple and Microsoft set up a base at the Port when the federal Coalition has no intention of building the national broadband network (NBN)?
