the ordinary

An everyday or ordinary visual language would be the Kodak snapshot, which is often seen as, and understood to be, a transparent language. This is not to imply that photography of the everyday be photographed in film as the snapshot style or language can be, and is done, in digital. Flickr clearly shows that.

However we don’t have to follow the conventions of received visual grammar, even if we work with ordinary Australian images and with everyday objects. The photograph can be stripped of the saturated neon colour look of digital and move towards ordinary plainness of the snapshot.
