The central Midlands around Tunbridge won’t be like this for long as it has been earmarked for extensive irrigated agriculture with the water to come from Arthur’s Lake. The dream is an old one: sending water into the arid interior of Australia to create a productive green land. The possibilities are for more jobs and more vibrant towns. All that means a very different looking landscape.
One major consequence of the expansion of irrigated agriculture is more salt pans in the landscape.
