Rope

As I am usually photographing sand patterns, quartz, granite or seaweed amongst the coastal rocks this rope lying amongst the granite rocks stood out.

I went back looking for the rope on the next afternoon walk to take some more photos. I wanted to approach the macro photo as if it were a still life in an open air studio. This is what I had in mind:

The rope didn’t stay there long–a day or so. It was gone the following day. Like other found objects that I’d stumble upon whilst walking along the coast it had been swept away by a high tide. The opportunity to return the next day and photograph the rope with a view camera had gone. It is usually the way with objects washed up onto the littoral zone.
